all new tonight at 6, sunday was not a day of rest for crooks. three armed robberies. let's map it out. two stores were held up and then we had a royal farms hit on oak manner. >> reporter: at about 3:25 sunday morning, police received a call for an armed robbery at this 7/11. a man displaying a gun and demanding money. just 3 miles away and 15 minutes later, a man fitting the same description with a gun robbed this store. these ladies were shocked but not surprised. police say this is a curious

koins dense. >> we don't know and can't say if they are connected, but it's something they are looking into. >> reporter: later that day around 1 in the afternoon, police went to this royal farms store where another robbery occurred. police say there were some differences from the robberies that happened hours earlier. >> the suspect had a different description. that one he only implied a weapon. a weapon was never observed. police searched all three businesses. they are looking at security cameras to see if that will help. don harrison, abc 2 news. >> if you know anything, you're asked to submit your tips to crime stoppers. you can also text your tip to crimes. just include mcs at the beginning of the text. with the nice weather, many

test. now here's the latest on the gas station shooting that happened over the weekend. police say the attendant shot has been released from the trauma center and is expected to fully recover. a masked man entered the gas station at 11:00 on saturday night, fired a shot striking the worker before escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash. they now believe the same man attempted a similar robbery minutes earlier at the high store near the festival of bel air shopping center opinion an employee reports a man with a similar description aimed a gun at her and demanded money. >> she was able to press the alarm and the suspect fled before getting any cash. >> investigators are processing video from security cameras at both locations trying to identify a suspect. two people indicted by a grand jury for conspiring to use robo calls last november

have both pleaded not guilty. they were in court this morning. the two were political operatives for bob urlich. they said they had nothing to do with the calls. the trial is coming up september 22nd. and while the debate on the debt goes on, howard county wants you to look over its own books. so ken allman is considered that the federal debt crisis could impact the county. the bond rating could be lowered. the other the federal government might not have money to pay federal employees. the president of the maryland association of counties is also urging other counties to review their finances as well. the recent dry weather has been a good thing if you had

day we won't forget for awhile. it marks the 10th year of the train redelaware railment -- train derailment. rail cars burned for five days. we had a massive water main break that forced parts of our city to be closed. if you have plans to travel to the north side of the capital beltway, be ready for delays. the highway administration has started a nearly $4 million resurfacing project. the stretch of road between colesville road and seminary road is going to be a single- lane closure from 9 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon monday through friday and from 8:00 until 10:00 sunday to thursday. there will be two lane closures from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. monday through friday and this is the first resurfacing project to be done in the beltway since 2004. it's expected to be finished by

thanksgiving. the maryland transportation authority says the nearly $20 million project started today. hopefully won't have major impact on the traffic. most of the work will be performed from barges. cleaning and repainting the bridges will help maintain the structural integty. the project is expected to be finished by the fall of 2012. casey anthony is somewhere tonight, but every time we get a high profile case like this, there's always a scam to worry about. how is this casey anthony case a virus.

. the u.s. hopes of winning a third world cup title came to an end. it was a big win for japan, which only four months ago was rocked by a massive earthquake. the game was well watched here in the u.s. especially in baltimore, which had the highest ratings for the women's world cup final in the entire united states. so what does that mean for soccer? women's soccer in particular. we spent the day out in somo. >> the women's u.s. soccer team may have lost, but in a way, you can say that soccer in itself may have won. interest in soccer all over the country blooms when they are in title games like this.

harbor. in culpepper, we're looking at trim digits as well. the satellite and radar not picking up on a whole lot. showers and thunderstorms off to the north. the big picture shows the fact we have the cold front. the only thing it's going to drop is the showers and thunderstorms through the evening. even into tomorrow and maybe even the day after that. what we're dealing with is the fact we had the heat and humidity. that's going to be the name of the game through time. speaking of the humidity and heat, let's head to the tropics. we had tropical storm brett. now we're looking at the winds sustained at 615 miles an hour. the forward momentum now northeast at 6 miles an hour. and it's bushing away from the bahamas. the track takes it just to the north of bermuda. it's also good news for us because we have the cold front pushing through that's why it's going to stay away from us through time. if your travels take you to the
